Leipzig - 1790. The German physician, pharmacist and chemist Dr Samuel Hahnemann, makes the discovery of a lifetime. Dissatisfied with the theories put forward by an English doctor on the way that Cinchona bark works in treating malaria, he decides to experiment on himself. To his amazement, the Cinchona bark causes his body to exhibit symptoms of malaria. Through this experiment Hahnemann discovers the fundamental principle of homeopathy: an illness can be cured by a medicine that triggers similar symptoms in a healthy person.
Doctors and scientists around the world took up Hahnemann's theories and developed them further. One of the most brilliant of these was the American physician Dr James Tyler Kent whose influence on modern homeopathy is still felt today. Kent's work has become a standard reference for homeopaths worldwide.
One of Dr. Kent's most gifted students, Dr. B.K. Bose, became a leading figure in homeopathy in India. For many decades, Dr. B.K. Bose headed the Calcutta Homeopathic College and Hospital. He personally trained many of what were to become India's leading homeopathic teachers. His immense knowledge and charismatic personality attracted students from all over the world.
